State Private University

State Private University

Indian State Private University are created by private entrepreneurs but have been awarded university status by the respective state’s authorities which enroll students. This has been granted the status of university by the commission to other educational institutions within the territory of India as per the provisions laid down by the Indian constitution of UGC Act of 1956 and of other laws of the respective states.

Development of State Private Universities in India

The development of state private colleges within India started in the early 2000 when the need for education and more access to it became more important for immigrant communities. Greater emphasis was placed both by Government of India and government of different states towards use of private institutions to help meet the higher education demand in inaccessible and poor areas of the country.

Several state governments took the major historical step of enacting the Western style state private universities act. They enabled private entities to start universities with the state’s approval if a range of requirements covering academic, location and faculty were adhered to.

The need for resources for higher education surged greatly in the 21st century due to a net growth in the population around the world. The want for skilled professionals in technology, engineering, management, law, medicine, and other professions lead to an increase in the amount of private universities around the world. In retrospect to standard private colleges, these newly state owned private universities possess the necessary prerequisites of being able to confer degrees which otherwise could be received from public universities.

States Role Towards Universities

State Private Universities are more important than one could imagine, especially in India. Their key role is simple and straightforward in concept, but difficult to implement: to supplement the public universities, especially with high demand in certain skill sets and newly developing domains. Some key roles these universities serve include:

Increasing Coverage for Education: Bridging the educational divide, especially in rural and remote locations where the scope of such programs is limited and not more than what is provided by public universities.

Raising Educational Standards: The branch of private universities that plans on focusing solely on the latest technological programs, management, and the sciences are able to provide modern infrastructure while also providing services that are more focused towards the student such as internships, placements and so on. They usually work with industry leaders and global companies to develop relevant curriculum content.

Encouraging Research and Innovation: Some of the state private universities have set up research centres which promote innovation and allow students and faculties to engage in research activities which are conducted at both the national and global level.

Fostering Employability: These have set out to bridge the gap between academia and industrial practice and offer students with specially designed programs that include skill enhancement, training graduates and conducting internships to increase employability of the graduates.

Promoting Cultural Diversity: Being private, many state private universities accept students from every part of India, thus promoting a melting pot of nationalities and a multicultural diversity in the campus environment.
